🔬🌿 Engaging in Scientific Explorations amidst a Busy Schedule! ⏰📚🌱 Amidst a jam-packed schedule for the next two months, I'm excited to share that scientific activities remain one of the top priorities for me. Today, I found myself once again running to Grenoble INP-Pagora - LGP2 , as ChangeNOW 2023 approaches in just a couple of days. It's been an exhilarating journey so far, and today, I have some visually compelling empirical results to share with you! 💡🌿🍃 In the photo, you'll see a sample of a fallen leaf from the majestic Magnolia Grandiflora, which I fermented in a specialized solution. This process allowed me to separate the various components of the leaf, including the cuticular mass, mesophyll, parenchyma, and the skeletal structure. My aim was to explore the arrangement of cellulose fibrils within the leaf's structure—a topic of immense interest to me. 🍂🔎🌿 By taking this meticulous and methodical approach, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate fiber deposition and its contents within the leaf. It's an exciting part of my ongoing journey to further validate the Releaf Paper concept from a scientific perspective. 🌱📖💡 The photo reveals the central vein of the leaf, which seamlessly transitions into the peripheral veins. It is in this magnificent network that the main source of fiber resides, boasting remarkable paper-forming properties. It's truly mesmerizing to witness nature's ingenious design up close. 🌾📝⏳ Despite a demanding schedule, I am committed to unlocking the mysteries hidden within the plant kingdom. Scientific exploration fuels my curiosity and drives me to contribute to a better understanding of our natural world. Stay tuned for more intriguing updates as I continue on this scientific journey! 🌿🔬...#ScientificExploration #BusyScheduleLife #changenow2023 #EmpiricalResults #FascinatingResearch #MagnoliaGrandiflora #LeafStructure #CelluloseFibrils #NatureDesign #RELEAFValidation #PaperFormingProperties #MeticulousApproach #CuriosityDriven #UnveilingMysteries #PlantKingdomWonders #ScientificMindset #DeepeningUnderstanding #naturebasedsolutions #ResearchProgress #UnlockingNature #staycurious

I wrote one of the first academic papers with the word 'biomimicry' in the title in 2005:Bionics vs. biomimicry: from control of nature to sustainable participation in natureAbstract: Quantum theory, complexity theory, and ecosystems theory, along with anthropogenic climate change and ecosystem collapses are confronting humanity with insights that will crucially inform the re-design of products, processes, services and institutions in order to catalyse the transition towards a sustainable human civilization. In a fundamentally interconnected and unpredictable world, where local actions have global consequences, the intentionality behind science and design needs to shift from aiming to increase prediction, control and manipulation of nature as a resource, to a transdisciplinary cooperation in the process of learning how to participate appropriately and sustainably in Nature.A participatory conception of nature–culture relationships acknowledges the dependence of humanity on healthy ecosystems and a healthy biosphere. It implies the need for a salutogenic design approach that increases human, societal and ecological health synergistically. In order to create sustainable designs that are sensitive to the unique social, cultural and ecological conditions of a particular place and facilitate the emergence of health as a system-wide and scale linking property, designers will have to move from a detached perspective of culture as apart from nature and learning about nature, to a more holistic and participatory perspective of culture as a part of Nature and learning from Nature. This paper suggests that bionics and biomimicry represent two distinct approaches to ‘design and nature’ based on different conceptions of the relationship between nature and culture. An effective transition towards sustainability, mediated by design, will have to be informed by a holistic and participatory conception of nature and culture within a fundamentally interconnected and unpredictable complex dynamic system. Keywords: sustainability, #complexity, #bionics, #biomimicry, transdisciplinary, #design, health, scale-linking, #salutogenic, ecology....https://lnkd.in/dRVAU6P4

I am thrilled to announce that our team's paper, titled “Designing a Systematic Experiment to Investigate the Effect of Ambient Smell on Human Emotions in the Indoor Space; Introducing a Mixed-Method Approach,” was recently published on Springer:https://lnkd.in/dyQXJzaiIn this research, we designed a systematic methodology with rigorous empirical protocols using a mixed-method approach to investigate the impact of the indoor built environment's smell on human emotions. In contrast to studies in this domain relying solely on qualitative and subjective data collection tools, our research utilizes neuroscience tools and psychometric tasks, allowing for the potential acquisition of quantitative and objective data. The integration and alignment of the collected data facilitate a more comprehensive analysis and interpretation, offering a deeper understanding of the implicit and explicit effects of built environment smells on humans.A big thank you to my amazing colleagues, Jane Burry, Mehrnoush Latifi, and Joseph Ciorciari, for their outstanding collaboration in crafting this article. Your dedication and teamwork have greatly enriched the content, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such talented individuals. I express my appreciation to the editors Chao Yan, Hua Chai, Tongyue Sun, and Philip F. Yuan for their exceptional efforts and outstanding work.#design #architecture #architecturedesign #neuroscience #neuroArchitecture #research #qualitativeresearch #quantitativeresearch #interdisciplinaryresearch #eeg #smell #ambientsmell #odor #airquality #indoorairquality #builtenvironment #emotions #health #health #environnement #CDRF #digital #intelligence #springer

Take a look at my latest paper. It is a conceptual work, in which the single tooth mesh stiffness shape is manipulated using crowning, to look like the shape of the load sharing. This results in a gear with theoretical constant mesh stiffness. The link below provides free access to the manuscript. https://lnkd.in/dnUpsEnM

While searching for updated material for my course on supply chain research methodologies, I found this just published work by Andreas Wieland, Wendy Tate, Tingting Yan that provides a very interesting view of some qualitative research techniques not very often employed in our discipline. This is a must read! Thanks for sharing your work.
