This Coffee Slice is the perfect no-bake, sweet treat match for your next cup of coffee! A melt and mix coffee and biscuit base with chocolate and coffee icing, then set in the fridge.

Calling all coffee lovers out there, this one is for you! My Coffee Slice is another of my super easy no-bake slice recipes. With no cooking required, it sets in the refrigerator - now that's my kind of cooking!

It's got a rich, coffee flavoured biscuit base that's topped off with a coffee-spiked chocolate icing. You could probably describe this as a mocha slice, with that chocolate/coffee combo going on.

Ingredients you will need for this recipe

  • plain biscuits (I used Arnott's Marie)
  • salted butter
  • instant coffee
  • cocoa powder
  • light brown sugar
  • condensed milk
  • desiccated coconut
  • vanilla
  • milk chocolate
  • boiling water

How to make this recipe

  1. Process the biscuits in a food processor until fine crumbs.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the instant coffee, cocoa powder and light brown sugar with boiling water to dissolve.Coffee Slice - No Bake · Chef Not Required... (2)
  3. Place crushed biscuits, condensed milk, coconut, melted butter, vanilla and coffee/cocoa mixture in a large bowl and mix well.
  4. Press mixture into a greased and lined baking tin.Coffee Slice - No Bake · Chef Not Required... (3)
  5. For the icing, melt the chocolate and butter together in the microwave, then add more instant coffee and mix.
  6. Spread chocolate over biscuit base and place in the fridge to set.Coffee Slice - No Bake · Chef Not Required... (4)

My top tips for making this recipe

  • If you don't have a food processor, just put the biscuits in a sturdy plastic bag and give them a bash with a rolling pin or something else heavy.
  • Greasing and lining the baking tin is important, even though we aren't going to "bake" anything! This step will help you get your slice out of the tin once it's set. If it still won't budge, just sit the bottom of the tin in some hot water for a few seconds and it should come right out.

Serving suggestions and ideas for add-ins

  • I have just used plain-common-all-garden coffee in the recipe, but a flavoured coffee that you enjoy would be good too.
  • You could add some chopped walnuts.
  • Serve it with...a cup of coffee!

Ingredients

  • 250 g Arnott's Marie biscuits
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 250 g sweetened condensed milk
  • 85 g desiccated coconut
  • 80 g salted butter melted
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon boiling water

Chocolate Icing

  • 180 g milk chocolate
  • 40 g salted butter
  • ½ teaspoon instant coffee granules

Instructions

  • Grease and line a 20 x 20 cm baking tin and set aside.

  • Process the biscuits in a food processor until fine crumbs.

    250 g Arnott's Marie biscuits

  • In a small bowl, mix together the instant coffee, cocoa powder and light brown sugar with boiling water to dissolve.

    1 tablespoon instant coffee granules

    1 tablespoon cocoa

    1 tablespoon light brown sugar

    1 tablespoon boiling water

  • In a large bowl, place crushed biscuits, condensed milk, desiccated coconut, melted butter, vanilla and coffee/cocoa mixture and mix well to combine.

    250 g sweetened condensed milk

    85 g desiccated coconut

    80 g salted butter

    ½ teaspoon vanilla

  • Press the mixture into the greased and lined baking tin.

  • For the icing, melt the milk chocolate and butter together in the microwave (in 30 second bursts, mixing with a metal spoon between bursts). When melted, mix to incorporate the butter, then add instant coffee and mix well.

    180 g milk chocolate

    40 g salted butter

    ½ teaspoon instant coffee granules

  • Spread chocolate icing over the biscuit base and then place in the fridge to set.

Notes

  • If you don't have a food processor, just put the biscuits in a sturdy plastic bag and give them a bash with a rolling pin or something else heavy.

    I’ve made this a couple of times & it’s been gooey.
    I now know why!
    I added a full can of condensed milk!
    The actual amount is less than a tin full.
    Will try again as its delicious

    made this yesterday and its still not set! Just tried a slice with my morning coffee and it was so soft couldn't even hold it. Followed the recipe exactly, so disappointing and a waste of ingredients!

      Hi Wilma, I'm sorry this didn't work for you! Did you perhaps use evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk in the recipe? Or did you have to use gluten free biscuits for dietary requirements?

        Hi, no I definitely used condensed milk and normal biscuits, and I measured everything out carefully. Don't understand how it's gone so soft, but you literally can't pick it up and eat it....tastes good though!

      Hi! You could leave out the coconut, you would just need to either increase the amount of crushed biscuits or use less sweetened condensed milk so that the slice isn’t too sloppy. Hope this helps!

      I made this recipe yesterday evening and instead of coconut I added extra biscuits. It turned out beautiful. I was wondering how long they would keep in the fridge. Or if they could be frozen. Thanks for the recipe.

        Hi Allison! The slice should keep in the fridge for 5 - 7 days if it's kept airtight. And yes the slice can be frozen.

      Hi Torie, no need to chill the base you can ice it straight away then pop the whole thing in the fridge to set!

    My slice turned out well. Yet to taste it. While l was prepping it l wondered if the non-setting mixes were made with evaporated milk instead of condensed milk.

        Made one first thing this morning and it isn't setting. I measured all the ingredients exactly and used sweetened condensed milk, definitely not evaporated milk. The only thing that's different is the biscuits - I'm in the UK so the ones listed aren't available. I used digestives, as I would for a chocolate refrigerator cake. My guess is that rich tea biscuits would have been a better substitute but doubt that I'll try it again to see if it makes a difference. Cake was for our village coffee shop tomorrow so have had to cobble something else together 🙁

    like Jill above I followed the recipe and put it in the fridge fir a few hours but it's just not setting hard. Still runny. when I made caramel before I did cook it. no idea why mine hasn't set. waste of ingredients

        yes even a little more than 250grams I think. now it is starting to firm up 2 days later and I can add the chocolate topping so will see if it holds together. we will see.

    just made this for the first time. Followed the recipe and instructions (it looks soooo good). Tasted a little of the the base and icing before assembling. yummy.... just waiting for it to set.           Hi Ruth! I'm guessing you want to measure out the weight of butter without a scale? This would depend on the size and weight of the package of butter, but I usually find that butter that is sold wrapped in paper (or foil) has weights marked on the side of the package for this purpose. These will only be approximate though. Hope this helps!

    Surely the butter, sugar and condensed milk need to be cooked together first to go a little caramelly?! Then add the biscuits etc... I stupidly followed the recipe exactly and now have a gooey mess - what a waste 🙁
