General Information

Plan for registration using the Plan Ahead feature in GWeb. More information is available on our How to Register page.

GWeb registration is open from 9am EST - midnight during all Registration by Earned Credits periods unless otherwise advertised on the GWeb login page or the Office of the Registrar homepage. Once general registration begins the system will be available 24 hours/day.

Please ensure GWeb is only open in one browser across all devices (e.g. laptop, mobile phone, tablet) when registering.

Degree-seeking students who are currently enrolled are eligible to register as outlined in the semester registration schedule, except for a few selected programs, consortium courses, closed classes, or classes requiring departmental or instructor approval (see Classes Unavailable in GWeb). You may register for classes using the GWeb Information System. GWeb can also be used to check for holds on your student account by clicking on “View Student Profile” and then “Holds” in the upper right-hand corner.

Specific categories of students are given priority on certain days of the Registration by Earned Credits period. Once eligible to register, you may continue to register or adjust your program through the end of the Registration by Earned Credits period, except where otherwise noted. You may register ONLY on or after the day(s) for your category. Occasionally the system may be made unavailable during regular hours for system maintenance and upgrades. These periods will be advertised in advance on the GWeb login page.

New students who have been admitted to degree programs for the upcoming semester should check with their school for information about orientation and registration. International students should be aware of federal requirements concerning enrollment in a "full course of study".

Students in the Law School or Medical School, as well as students in off-campus programs, should consult with their school or program for registration information specific to them.

Fall 2024 Registration

Please note that "credits earned" does not include courses in progress, but does include transfer credit that has been posted to your academic record. Please use your GWeb unofficial transcript, not DegreeMAP, to determine your total earned credit hours.

Late Registration

Beginning the first week of classes, students who wish to add a course and drop a course as an even exchange may do so without financial penalty if these transactions are made during the same class week (by the drop date for a refund) for an equal number of credits.

Please be advised that individual program adjustments may incur financial penalties and/or additional fees if they are not even exchanges, or involve courses other than those at the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses. Please see the Student Accounts website for information about Adding & Dropping Courses.

Students who wish to make changes to their schedule once GWeb registration has closed must use an RTF-EZ form (PDF). Any course(s) added must have the permission of the instructor or department. After the fourth week of classes, students must receive permission from their Advising Office to add a course using the RTF (Classic).

Students may drop courses through the end of the fourth week of classes without academic penalty using GWeb. After the fourth week of classes, it is considered a withdrawal and a grade of 'W' will appear on the transcript. Students may withdraw using GWeb through the end of the tenth week of classes. Undergraduate students in Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, Elliott School of International Affairs, GW School of Business, Milken Institute School of Public Health, and School of Engineering and Applied Science may withdraw using an RTF through the last day of classes. Withdrawals after the tenth week of classes for undergraduates in other schools and graduate students require a petition to the student's Dean's Office.

Any changes to registration that require Dean's permission (i.e. changing from letter-grade to pass/fail or time conflicts) must be completed using a Registration Transaction form (PDF).
